General Questions

What are the Children of Time Awards? When were they started?

The Children of Time Awards were started in November 2008.

COTA was created as a place where you, the readers and fans, could have a say in honouring the works you enjoy. It's a place where we hope that, by bringing the various segments together under one 'roof' (so to speak), we can all share our love for this fandom and even discover works outside of the segment we usually occupy.

We strive to be inclusive and welcoming; to open our doors to a variety of styles, pairings, and genres. By running this site the way we do, we are trying to create a way for you to reward the works that bring you pleasure, to recognize those works in as concrete a way as fandom allows. We make no apologies for taking this approach, though in doing so, we also do not diminish other ways of running awards sites.

No one site can be all things to all people, but we hope that COTA provides a valuable forum and that it also affords visitors the opportunity to see how broad and diverse the range of fanworks is and inclines them to explore the fandom's boundaries. We thank all of you who participate - whether you are writers, artists, nominators, or voters - and we look forward to continuing to celebrate this fandom with you.

Who is Shannon? Does she have any kind of experience running awards and why did she start one for the Doctor Who fandom?

Shannon started her first award site in the Buffy fandom in 2001. That site is still running, although it has undergone many changes over the years. She has also run two other award sites and volunteered as a judge for many others.

She started the Children of Time Awards because the Who fandom is full of wonderful authors and artists who deserve to be recognized for their work.

You can find out more about Shannon's fandom interests here.

What about the other mods, who are they?

Our mods are a diverse bunch with wide-ranging interests (though those often fall by the wayside during the nomination period here). If you’d like to get to know them better, you can read their bios here.

When does the next round start? When does voting end/begin? Etc.

You can find the complete list of start and end dates for both the nomination and voting periods of each round, along with a complete list of rules, here.

Times listed are always GMT unless otherwise stated. While we do our best to stick to the outlined schedule, we all have lives outside of fandom so there will be occasions when we will have to make changes to the dates or hours listed. However, we will do our best to always give extra time rather than shorten the time allotted.

I heard that you really only want to go through the trouble of these awards for some of the Doctor Who fandoms and that you actually tried to get rid of the Classic Who section because you don’t like Classic Who fics.

We've always tried to include all of the Who fandoms in this site. In the first round there was no separation of New and Classic Who, and that led to many people not realizing that we were including Classic Who, so in round two we changed the format to list each fandom separately, and officially added The Sarah Jane Adventures as well. Classic Who and SJA did, admittedly, have fewer categories because none of the mods for round 2 were familiar enough with those fandoms to create character and pairing categories like we had in Torchwood and New Who. We continue to strive for inclusiveness and will keep trying to improve.

We've seen comments that help was offered and turned down. That is both true and false. We did turn down help with notifying potential nominees, because we already had 4 people working on that and adding more would have further confused things. However, when help was requested in creating Classic Who categories, we did not receive offers, so there was no one to turn down. We've now added a mod with more Classic Who experience and hope that we have been able to do that section justice in this round and in future rounds.

Nomination and Voting Questions

What are the eligibility requirements for nominees?
  • The content of each nominee must focus on the Doctor Who universe at large, which includes but is not necessarily limited to: New Who, Classic Who, Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood.
  • All nominees must be on a webpage viewable to the general public. In other words, they cannot be housed solely on journals that are friends-locked, websites that require membership, etc.
  • All fics must be complete in their entirety unless nominated in the WiP (Work in Progress) category.
  • The published, or most recently updated, date of all fics must be within a year of when the current round started, unless nominated in the Classic fic category.
Why do fics have to be less than a year old to be nominated?

Doctor Who has been around for a very long time, spawned two spin-off shows, and produced multiple other media ( including books and audio adventures). Because of this, and the huge following the show has garnered, the Doctor Who fandom is capable of producing massive amounts of fanfiction. There is quite literally too much out there, and if we didn’t have this restriction in place, we would be inundated with even more nominations than we already receive (over 600 in round two alone). Therefore, the decision was made to limit the age of the fic to less than a year old. Older stories are allowed in the Classic fic category only.

How many times can I nominate?

You may nominate as many times as you like. We do ask, however, that you use some restraint and don’t nominate everything you’ve ever read in one round. Remember, there are multiple rounds a year, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to make sure that all your favorites are up for an award at least once. How should you decide how many nominations are too many? Well, if you have two separate nominees in the same category, which one will you vote for? Keep in mind also that if we, the mods, feel at any point that you are abusing the nomination process, we can ban you from participating in the rest of the round.

Why are there restrictions on how many times a fic can be nominated?

We’ve limited the number of times a fic can be nominated (once per section, for a maximum of three nominations total) to make things fair for everyone involved. If we didn’t implement this rule, some fics could (and would) be nominated across the board.

What happens if a fic is nominated more than the allotted number of times? Or in the same section more than once?

Nominations are accepted on a first come, first served, basis. Any additional nominations after the limits are met are discarded.

What if a fic qualifies under more than one fandom?

In the rare case where a fic would actually qualify in more than one fandom, the three nominations rule is across all fandoms. Meaning each fic is allowed three nominations total, not per fandom.

Why can't I nominate a fic that's part of a series by itself? Why do I have to nominate the whole series?

Fics that are a part of a series generally require knowledge of previous fics in the timeline in order for them to make sense. Not only is this confusing for the reader but we feel it makes a story far less likely to win an award or even receive fair consideration. The only exception to this rule is the first story in a series, which should be able to stand on its own.

What are the different categories? What does PwP stand for? How long is a drabble?

For these and other category questions, please see our Categories page.

Why do you ask for my name and email address?

We ask for this information so, if there is a problem with your nomination form, we know where to direct our questions. If we have no way to contact you, your nomination will have to be thrown out.

How do I know what rating I should put?

Your best bet is to pull the rating off the fic itself. If for some reason the author does not have a rating listed or if they’re using a different rating system than us and you’re not sure what the conversion would be, please use the following guidelines:

  • All ages: Stories with no sexual content or descriptions of violence.
  • Teen: Stories with mild descriptions of violence and/or implied sexual situations.
  • Adult: Stories with graphic descriptions of sex and/or violence.
Do you want me to list every single character and pairing in the fic?

No. Basically what we need is a short list of the main 2-3 characters and/or pairing (only one needed) in a fic. If the fic has a large cast, and all characters/pairings are equally represented, then please pick those that are most relevant to the category you’re nominating the fic in (which you should do anyway).

How do I know/find out dates and word counts?

Depending on where the story you are nominating is archived, one or both of these are easy enough to find in the story listing. Teaspoon and Fanfiction.net both list dates and word counts. Livejournal lists dates but not word counts. Personal journals and other fic archives may or may not list either of these things. For unknown dates, try looking for the fic on one of the sites listed above, or try asking the author what the publication date of the story was. For unknown word counts, just copy and paste the story into Microsoft Word or any other text editing program and look for the word count option.

What if I don't know the author's name and/or email address?

Most sites list the author’s name (generally a pen name). Email addresses are not always as easy to find out. For authors on Livejournal and Fanfiction.net, provide us a link to their user info page. For Teaspoon authors, a link to the contact author page.

Do I have to choose one category from each selection when nominating a fic?

No. In fact, we encourage you not to do that. Keep in mind we only allow 15 nominations per category, and if every fic was nominated once in all three sections (character(s), genre, and length), the categories would fill up that much faster. This isn’t to say you can’t nominate it in more than one category, just that you don’t have to do so.

Why am I supposed to explain why I'm nominating this fic/art/site? What sort of an answer are you looking for?

In previous rounds we’ve had issues with people making dozens and dozens of nominations. Beginning in round three, we are reserving the right to ban anyone who does this. Providing a brief, well thought out reason for why you’re nominating the fic/art/site shows us that you’ve given some consideration to the nomination. There is no right answer, nor do you have to write a novel-length review. Just tell us why you think the nominee deserves to be nominated.

What if I don't fill out the nomination form in its entirety?

Well, some sections of the form are required (they are indicated by a red asterisk). If these sections are not filled out, your nomination will not even be sent to us. If there’s another section that’s not filled out and we need the information, we will contact you for it.

Why don't I see the fic I nominated on your nominations page? Should I resend the nomination again?

When we receive your nomination, after checking to make sure the nomination hasn't been nominated in too many categories and that author has also not already reached their maximum number of nominations, we then have to contact the author and wait for them to respond. That can take a while. If you're absolutely sure there was no problem with the nomination itself chances are the author has not responded to our email. Resending your nomination won't fix that, you can try contacting the author to see if they've received an email or contacting us for more information before resubmitting.

Shannon

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I started reading fic in spring 2008. Then I started writing drabbles and ficlets that summer.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Buffy was my first fandom. Then I was involved in the Harry Potter fandom. I've also written in the Gilmore Girls, Charmed, Firefly, and Anita Blake fandoms, but I wouldn't necessarily say I was 'involved' in them, it was much more just occasional drabbles for friends.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

I started reading in Buffy in 1998, writing in 1999

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

Mostly, Torchwood, although I do read and have done a few drabbles in Doctor Who.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I'm really only familiar with New Who and Torchwood so, Ninth and Tenth Doctors.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Jack/Ianto

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

Definitely, yes. Jack/Martha, Jack/Nine/Rose, Ianto/Martha, Ianto/Martha/Jack Ianto/Tosh, Ianto/Tosh/Jack, Jack/Rhys, Owen/Ianto, Doctor/Martha, Doctor/Donna (only in a non-romantic fic though).

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

Fluff, humour, romance. Some light angst is good.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

Write mostly, occasionally banners or icons.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I started this site, because I like being involved in fandom. I like seeing people getting attention and recognition for all the love and work they put into creating things for the fandom.

Fourzoas

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I've been watching for several years (not counting the late nights spent trying to understand what was happening in disjointed serials on PBS during my childhood), but didn't get involved in the fandom until Summer 2008. After S4 ended, I went looking for discussion about events and found a new home.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Not really, unless you could knitting as one! I'm marginally keeping track of the growing Leverage fandom.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

About 9 months. Wow.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

Only really involved with DW, but I watch TW and SJA.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I'm a big fan of Martha Jones, so the Tenth Doctor era is a favorite, although I've been devouring Classic Who, and have a soft spot for each Doctor. The more Classic I see, the more I think of the Doctor's regens as a new suit, not a new person, and so I tend to imagine progression of a character, not an entirely different one. Having said that: I love the Seventh Doctor's era, adore the First, and want more Third Doctor & Liz Shaw. I prefer the first Romana to the second, think the Eighth Doctor needs some more screen time (although he's fab on audio), and can't wait to do a marathon watch/rewatch of the Fifth Doctor's era.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Doctor/TARDIS & Ian/Barbara

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write and make a few icons for personal use.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I wanted to help; I think the CoT Awards are a great chance to discover new fics and art, and I wanted to be part of the fun!

Momdaegmorgan

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

The end of summer 2007. I had only just joined another fandom (see #2) and was peeking at the Doctor Who fics when I came across one that caught my eye. Read it, and after hemming and hawing for a bit, decided to try my hand at writing the Doctor and Rose.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Just the Stargate SG1 fandom.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

Compared to most people I'm a relative newbie to fandom at large, and fanfiction specifically. Just a few months before I joined the Who community, I had written for the Stargate SG1 fandom. Before that, nothing. So I've only been doing this for about two years now.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

I'm only involved with Doctor Who, though I do watch both Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures, and have a few Torchwood fics bookmarked that I'm going to read someday.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I've watched some Classic Who (mostly Four, had a huge crush on him when I was a kid) but I'm only active with New Who (Nine and Ten equally).

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

I'm definitely a Doctor/Rose shipper.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I mostly read fics that focus on the Doctor/Rose relationship, but I like all New Who characters and even ship some (Martha/Tom for instance). There isn't anyone that I won't read about and I've even been known to enjoy the occasional fic that pairs the Doctor with someone other than Rose.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

I read just about any sort of fic but particularly enjoy ones that have at least a smattering of hurt/comfort in them. Oh, and, smut is always good too.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write.

Why did you get involved with this site?

Because I saw a need for more volunteers and I love helping people out. Because the only thing I love doing more than helping is acknowledging the hard work people put into their fics and the awards is a wonderful way to do just that.

Sinecure

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I got involved in the fandom about a year ago. Watched the show for a year or more before that though.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Oh, yes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was my first fandom. Smallville followed that. Then I dabbled a wee bit in the Life on Mars fandom, but quickly moved on to Doctor Who.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

Hm. Since about... 98? Started with looking for spoilers for Buffy, ended... I don't see an end in sight. ;)

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

Just Doctor Who. I watch TW. Sort of reluctantly, just to be tied in for DW.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

New Who. But I've watched all of the Classic Who episodes. I only write New Who though. I'm only involved in the New Who fandom.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Rose/Doctor. More specifically Ten/Rose. Used to be all about Nine, but Ten just... stole my heart.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

Not really, but I won't smack the back button if I come across other pairings in my D/R fics.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

That's a hard one. I love smut. And long, involved fics. Romance. Action/adventure with romance. And smut. Really, I like it all! Mostly.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write up a storm. At least, I have ideas that I write up a storm on, actually writing the story itself? A little longer. I do graphics as well. Icons, headers, wallpapers, banners. All of it.

Why did you get involved with this site?

Through my beta, momdaegmorgan. She works tirelessly on the awards and I figured I could help out a bit.

Anything else you want to add?

I think the awards are awesome. And everyone who worked on them deserves a round of applause or ten.

Jlrpuck

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I happened to be home the night “Rose” and “The End of the World” aired on SciFi; I remembered watching the old black-and-white episodes when I was younger, and I was curious enough about the ‘new’ version to leave the channel on when I heard the theme music. And then, well, Eccleston was the Ninth Doctor, and I was hooked from the word “Run!”. I’d been a long-silent member of Mighty Big TV, which of course by that point was Television Without Pity, and I beelined for the site once the episodes had aired. And thus was I utterly, completely, sucked in. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

I got introduced to fanfic courtesy of the Jane Austen fandom; I learned that there are some brilliant writers, and some not-so-brilliant ones who care deeply for the fandom and the characters in it. I still voraciously read Jane Austen fanfic. I’ve always been a casual user in the Lord of the Rings fandom, too—and it was through LotR that I learned that there are people who can and do write the most mind-blowingly amazing, painstakingly-researched, hundreds of pages-long fics. I have to confess, my all-time favorite fanfic is actually one out of the LotR fandom ;)

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

Ooooh, mercy. I guess that would be since I really started using and abusing the internet, which would peg it in 1997/1998. That’s when I discovered the interwebs were a virtual smorgasborg of goodies for fans of various things; I can remember losing multiple days, all in a row, just by researching nothing but Austen fan and fic sites.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

I admit to only paying attention to one fandom, specifically—and that’s DW. Torchwood just never really clicked with me (although I adore the music, and think Ianto is fantastic); and nor did SJA.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I’m a pretty hard-core user when it comes to alt-verse, crossover writing—although I have also written here and there during the Ninth, Tenth, and post-JE eras. My imagination is pretty hard-wired to write Nine, mostly because I still enjoy him the most of any Doctor—not just for his dry wit, but because I believe he’s such a wonderfully nuanced character with far, far more to him than meets the eye.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

My mood quite honestly shifts on this day-to-day, and even hour-to-hour. But if forced to say I had one, it’d be Ten/Rose.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I love reading stories with Donna—provided they’re not smut!fics. I adore reading stories where Jack is travelling, either with the Doctor or on his own. I’ll periodically dabble in reading stories with Martha, although again not smut!fics. I delight in a well-penned Jackie Tyler; and I feel that Mickey Smith has gotten the life and characterization he has so deserved through fanfiction.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

Oh, tough question. I love a good exploration of what makes the Doctor tick in any given situation. I love reading a good ‘buddy fic’ between the Doctor and Donna and/or Rose and/or Jack. I love deft explorations of AU’s. I’ve seen quite a few brilliant stories which explore what might have happened off-page or off-screen. I’m pretty much a sucker for anything that flows nicely on the page, is well-characterized, is vividly presented, and is imaginative.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write. A lot. The vast majority of it is a Blackpool/DW crossover where JE, et al, didn’t occur. But I’ve written shorter stories with Nine, Ten, and whatever the post-JE not-Ten is called.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I liked that someone had had the courage to try to reward the creative side of the Who fandom; I thought it was well past time that people were recognized for the love and effort they put into celebrating it. I still believe in the awards; and I love that it’s fic/art/graphics nominated by, and voted on, by the fans.

Plus, I thought it wasn’t fair at all that the founder of the awards was being pilloried for trying to do something good for the fandom; I thought maybe offering to help, even a little bit, would be a very small way to show that not everyone disagreed with what she was doing.

Anything else you want to add?

The awards are going to continue to have growing pains—but I firmly believe that they continue to improve, and are a great way to recognize and reward the favourites in the fandom.

Gorengal

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I occasionally watched Doctor Who on PBS when I was growing up, then my husband got me into New Who…but I didn’t really get into fandom until Donna Noble became the Doctor’s companion. I think they had an interesting dynamic and relationship.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Law and Order: Criminal Intent mostly.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

If “being involved in fandom” means more than just watching a show and discussing it, then I’d say about 2-3 years. I probably started reading L&O: Criminal Intent fanfic 3 years ago and writing it 2 years ago, joined a few message boards, and got on LJ...which is the nexus of all fandom, right? At least, that’s what they tell me.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

I would say I’m only involved in DW fandom. I watch SJA but I haven’t read much fic or participated in fandom discussion. TW is in my Netflix queue.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

Of the “classic” Who eras, I’m most familiar with Four and Sarah Jane. My personal favorite was this last season of “new” Who with Ten and Donna.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

I don’t really have an OTP, but I most enjoy reading Ten/Donna. I know, they were “just mates,” but of all the New Who companions I think she was more than a match for the Doctor.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I’ll read anybody in a gen fic; in fact, I mostly prefer gen. Other het pairings I like are Nine/Rose and Ten/Martha.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

I love humor, adventure, and fluff. Sometimes I'm in the mood for angst, but I don't like it too dark.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write, mostly drabbles or short humor pieces.

Why did you get involved with this site?

Shannon requested help promoting the awards in different parts of fandom, so I volunteered to promote at doctor_donna. Somehow I also volunteered to contact nominees. I end up volunteering a lot. Anyway, I wanted to see the awards continue because I think it’s good to recognize those who create the fics and fan art we enjoy.

Dameruth

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

Back when I was a youngster I kept hearing about this British TV show, Doctor Who, but it wasn’t available where I lived. When my PBS station finally showed it, back in 1983, I was what you could call a “pre-fan,” based solely on the Doctor’s word-of-mouth reputation. My first ep was “Enlightenment” with Peter Davison and I never looked back.

In terms of online/NuWho fandom, I was searching for info on when S2 would run in the US and found the Skiffy forum. From there I found A Teaspoon and an Open Mind, where I started posting fic, which in turn lead me to LiveJournal and InsaneJournal.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

In terms of significant creative output, I’d include Quantum Leap and Blake’s Seven; in terms of joining the Fan Club, Elfquest, Rocky Horror and MST3K are the ones I actually shelled out for in the past.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

Pretty much as long as I’ve been self-aware . . . I remember watching (classic) Star Trek and The Prisoner when I was very wee (small enough to curl up in my mom’s lap, anyway), and I have a piece of Space: 1999 fanart (a drawing of the space octopus) dated to 1975 (5 years of age).

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

In terms of creative activity, I’m most strongly involved in DW, though I’ve seen all the episodes of TW and most of SJA, and have written TW fanfic (sometimes crossing over with DW, since it’s all one big, messy world . . .).

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I’m fond of NuWho and its spinoffs and since they’re most current they’re what I tend to write about, because I know them best off the top of my head. However, I’ve seen at least partial runs of all the Doctors’ episodes; I love them all and wouldn’t mind writing about any of them, following a little refresher work. I’ve written some Six stories (mostly to portray Six and Peri as I wish they’d been in canon) and one Five story. I’d like to write more with both of them someday, as well as Seven and Ace (one of my fave versions of Team TARDIS), and even some One with Susan, Ian and Barbara, since there are so many possibilities there . . . But I’m going all teal deer. Next question!

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

I don’t have “one true pairing” in the absolute sense. I tend to call Doctor/Rose/Jack my OT3 and the bulk of what I write includes variations on that threesome, because I enjoy those particular characters together. But I’m not totally locked into any particular ‘ship.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I enjoy a wide range of het and slash/femslash pairings, though some just don’t work for me (not to diss anyone’s ‘ships; as is so often said, YMMV and so does mine). As for characters – if they’re written well, I love all the DW/TW/SJA characters and will happily read gen about any of them.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

At risk of sounding a bit like a broken record, I love any and all of them if well-written.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I mostly write, though I’ve been known to do some Photoshopping (mostly icons) and will very, very occasionally turn out some drawings or crafts projects.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I think it’s a great thing for the fandom, giving people a place to gather and spotlight their favorite fan writers and artists. It’s easy to get involved in a few particular niches and miss out on great stuff happening elsewhere. I’ve found the CoT Awards to be an excellent resource for finding new stories and art, and I wanted to help get the word out about it. The wider the range of people nominating, the more variety there will be for all of us to enjoy!

Anything else you want to add?

Thanks to everyone who’s worked on and supported this site – you guys rock! And congrats to all the nominees and winners; people like what you do, so be proud and keep on doing it! :D

Gracie_Musica

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I got into Doctor Who just after Season 2 of New Who wrapped up, through a friend of mine who was an Old School Who fan. Torchwood I've followed since it first started airing.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Oh God, yes. I'm a veteran of anime/manga fandoms: Gensomaden Saiyuki, FAKE, Detective Conan/Case Closed, Magic Kaito, Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ouran High School Host Club, Kyo Kara Maoh!... And a whole bunch more I probably can't remember right now.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

I started in fandoms back in... 98. So ten years.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

I'm involved in New Who and Torchwood, with a bit of knowledge in SJA and Old School Who.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

Tenth Doctor, and Torchwood

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Jack/Ianto, and I'm a bit of a Doctor/Rose fangirl.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I really do like Jack/Ianto/Tosh, and I like reading what authors can do with little minor characters or a blank slate character like pre-Cyberwoman!Lisa.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

I'll read anything except non-con. That is my one and only squick.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I'm just a writer. My stick figures suck.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I got involved with CoTA because they needed help. *laughs* Simple as that.

Anything else you want to add?

Every fic nominated for every round is great, and I hope that everyone gets to find a new favorite work/artist/author because I've come across a ton through this site!

Sumeria

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

Um... I've been a fan of Classic who since '99, but I was never really involved in fandom for it; most of my fandom doings are fanfic related, most fic is shippy, and I never shipped the Doctor with anyone in Classic who. And I resisted New Who for years because I was foolish and stubborn; I marathoned all of season one about a year ago and leapt into fandom later that night.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Oh god yes, but far too many to name... Buffy, Harry Potter, Smallville, and dozens and dozens of anime fandoms.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

Since, ah... '95. Damn.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

New Who and Classic. A little bit of Torchwood, but honestly, I don't read much that doesn't have the Doctor in.

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

Hrm. In order... 6, 9, 10, 4, 3.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Doctor/Rose. Any Doctor, actually, though 2 might be weird.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

Anything with Jack or the Master or Donna. But no, there's really no other Who pairing that I would go out of my way to look for.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

Long. I like long stories, and especially anything that I might characterize as 'intense'. Particularly angst-type things, I guess.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I do-- but nothing yet in this fandom. I beta for some people and do some art in other fandoms. I haven't had time really to start anything new in the last year.

Why did you get involved with this site?

Ah... I am an incurrable medler. I can't write fiction well, and I draw slowly, but I like to be involved more than just voyeuristically (ie, reading other people's fic).

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

I blame gracie_musica. She came back from a vacation a couple of years ago totally into New Who, and eventually Torchwood and wouldn’t stop talking. So I gave it a shot to watch one episode – only to shut her up. Turns out I let her talking, and joined in. I was hooked halfway through the 1st episode. It took me longer to get into New Doctor Who. I was never a fan of classic Who even tho many of friend forced me to watch it, so I am still amazed that it’s one of my favorite series now. I’m not as into it as Torchwood, but I do enjoy it.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Classic Trek (I started fanfic writing with Kirk/Spock way back in the day), Starsky & Hutch, Star Wars, Quantum Leap, Enterprise, Charmed, KISS (yes, the rock group and there was a fanfic fandom for it – they make it easy to write superhero/sci-fi/fantasy based fics with them) and FAKE. There were a lot of smaller fandoms in between through the years, including for yaoi anime/manga in the last few years.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

I’m going to age myself here, but I bought my first fanzine at one of the original Star Trek conventions in NY back in 1973 (my dad and aunt took me to the cons). I’ve been reading/writing fanfic and involved in various fandoms since then.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

Are you familiar with any of the others? Mostly Torchwood, but I *dabble* with DW here and there, and have plans to do fics that are crossovers with DW.

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

I’m mostly a Jack/Ianto fan when reading, but I’ll read Jack, Ianto or Gwen-centric fics, or gen ‘Team Torchwood’. I prefer slash, so as much as I love Gwen, I’ll probably pass on a Gwen/Rhys PWP, as much as I love to see their relationship otherwise, or any other pairings involving explicit het sex.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

Slash, with Jack/Ianto pairing I read the most. I also find I’m enjoying Ianto and Gwen friendship fics. And of course, Team Torchwood fics, especially when they display the team dynamics.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I write and I do graphics (I’m one of the winner banner makers for Myfanwys_nest, made some icons and banners for my fics, and currently working on some banners for some pretty awesome series by equally awesome authors in the Torchwood fandom.

Why did you get involved with this site?

I was nominated! *laughs* And being that I appreciated having such a site, and respected the time and effort it took to give the DW/TW/SJA fandoms something like this, it felt right to give a hand however I can. So here I am!

How/When did you get involved in this fandom?

For years, my best friend kept talking about DW. Basically, it was just a way for her to rant about the historical inaccuracies since she is a History major. She told me all about DW plus the spin off Torchwood which she doesn't like. In 2007, I caught part of Series 3 on the Sci Fi channel in which I fell in love with Martha and I finally caught TW on the BBC America and my very first episode was They Keep Killing Suzie.

Have you ever been part of any other fandoms? Which ones?

Oh man, I suck up fandoms like it is water and I am a dying woman. To name a few, Queer as Folk, Panic at the Disco (recently started in Jan 09), Gilmore Girls, House, Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, The OC, Veronica Mars, Anita Blake Series and more.

How long have you been involved in fandoms life in general? Not just DW/TW but any fandom.

I would say I started reading fandoms about 1999. That was when one of my friends got me started on FF.net, my first fandom genre was Anime.

Which of the fandoms are you involved in (DW,Torchwood,SJA)? Are you familiar with any of the others?

My main fandom is Torchwood. My knowledge of Doctor Who but it's mostly only Series 3. The Martha era!

What eras are your personal 'stomping ground', and therefore where your imagination is most likely to run?

I would say the 10th Doctor since that's the one I started in. Anything else I feel uncomfortable reading because I don't know what's happening.

Do you have an OTP? What is it?

Of course the usual Jack/Ianto and Tosh/Owen

Any other pairings or characters you enjoy reading?

Sometimes I get mad at Jack so a lot of times, I like to read Ianto/OMC. Ianto shouldn't only be chained to Jack. I also like to read about Martha in the Torchwood fandom. She just seems more sure of herself and kickass.

What Genre/Type of fics do you enjoy reading the most?

I love angst and hurt/comfort. You see parts of it on television shows, but you don't really see the impact. It just moves along to the next thing. I am also not afraid to admit I really enjoy reading Mpreg.

Do you write or do graphics/vids/art?

I do graphics, and Vids occasionally. But I never share the Vids

Why did you get involved with this site?

First I was bored and this was an opportunity to do something with my time and the administrator was looking for some help so I put in my bid to help. Once I started the work I honestly enjoyed it. It wasn't hard and it was something to be done in my spare time-which was all the time.

Anything else you want to add?

I don't like cliques. I am not on LJ for the people. The friends Ido have online are people I've grown to trust not to bring drama so I don't have to unfriend them. Honestly, I am only on LJ for the fiction and if I make friends, well that's a bonus.:D But just because I don't like to make friends does not mean I won't welcome them with open arms if we have something in common!
