Rules
- Self nominations are allowed.
- You can only vote once.
- There will only be 20 nominees allowed per category. This is done on a first come, first served basis (according to author response).
- A fic can only be nominated in 3 categories. Please see this list of contradicting categories that are not allowed before nominating.
- Please make sure you include all necessary warnings for nominees.
- Nominees will be contacted and asked to approve all nominations. You will have the option of approving/rejecting just that particular nomination, or all nominations for the round.
- When approving a nomination an author can make any changes to the nomination they see fit. Categories, warnings, ratings, spelling, etc.
- If a fic has won a previous round they are not eligible again (runner ups are still eligible).
- WIPs can be nominated but must be marked as incomplete and have been updated in the last six months.
- If a category has 5 or more nominees for a single pairing and at least 5 nominees of other pairings, we will pull out the pairing and create a category for that pairing so that we'd have for example a Kink category and a Jack/Ianto Kink category if necessary. So, that when possible we can keep any single pairing from overwhelming a category.
- Character-bashing is not allowed. Because it is a subjective issue, though, the final decision is going to belong to a mod. You can find some basic guidelines that we will look at here. If you see a nominee that you believe does contain character bashing email me so we can look into it.
- We are not going to place restrictions on the number of nominations per author/per category or how much you can nominate. However, we do reserve the right to change that if we see too many nominations for a single author either overall or in a single category. Or if we see someone is flooding us with nominations. Remember we want your favourites, not just a lot of nominees so choose carefully.
- We must have a way to contact authors, we prefer email addresses, but we can PM them through the various sites that offer that service. However keep in mind that many people do not check for PMs regularly and give websites email addresses they don't check often so a PM is not always going to get a response in time, so if you have an email address please give us that instead. If the author lists a contact email on their journal, please copy that to us rather than ask us to PM.
Character Bashing Guidelines
We don't allow character bashing and will do our best to keep fics that do that out of the awards. We may not all love all of the characters but we do respect everyone's right to like or dislike whatever characters they choose. What we don't support and don't want to encourage here is the arguing and shipper wars that come with character bashing. We aren't saying you have to like all characters, we're just saying we won't award a fic that attacks that character.
Character bashing is very subjective, which unfortunately makes this a difficult rule to work with but one that is necessary. The definition we will be working with is:
An excessively negative and unnecessary focus on the worst traits of a character, often in an exaggerated and pejorative fashion.
However, because we can't possible read every nominee a few things we will look at when vetting the nominations are:
- Does the author warn for character bashing? Even if you don't think it really qualifies as bashing if the author warns for it we will assume it is bashing and not take it. Essentially, just like with errors, we trust the author to know their own work.
- Did you find this fic through a comm that exists to bash a character? They exist, we all know what they are. If we find them at those comms we'll turn them down. Yes, you may get it past us if you don't link to there but chances are someone will end up finding it and complaining and that just makes it worse for everyone because then we have to turn down an author that was already and approved and you've now hurt the author as well as us.
- If we get a complaint about a fic having bashing, a mod or a third party will go back and read it and their decision will be final. I don't consider any fic that shows a character in a slightly negative light to be bashing, it has to be somewhat exaggerated.
Contradicting Categories
When nominating you cannot nominate the same fic in each of the groups below. For example, you cannot nominate a fic in Children of Earth: Fix and Children of Earth, and Classics. Or any combination of those three categories.
